MOTHERS

Today is my mom’s birthday (Happy Birthday Mom!). In honour of that, I thought I’d do a little post with my favourite “Mommy Quotes”, perfect for journaling, you can never have too many quotes on hand!!

These are take from a book called “Expressions” by Adrienne Lubbe and Bonny Phillips. (Don’t worry, we have all the permissions in place!!)

  • You’re always a child while you have a mother to turn to.
  • There’s a special place in heaven for the mother of boys.
  • A mother holds her children’s hands for a while, but their hearts forever.
  • Mirror, mirror on the wall, I’m like my mother after all. (isn’t that one true!!!)
  • Mothers and daughters become closer when daughters become mothers.
  • There are two things you give your children- the one is roots, the other is wings.
  • To be a child is to know the fun of living… To have a child is to know the beauty of life.
  • You never realize how much you can love someone until you are their mother.
  • If I could, I would teach you everything I never learned. If I could, I would help you make it through the tough years. (Celine Dion)

Aren't some people just so clever with words!!

Have a great day FabScrappers!

FabScraps is Proudly South African

The 24th of September is Heritage Day in South Africa.  It is a day to celebrate our cultural diversity and for all South Africans to remember where their roots lie.

Some of the FabScraps staff dressed up in their traditional dress to celebrate Heritage Day

A newer South African custom is to celebrate National Braai (say Br-eye) Day, a barbeque to most other nations.  It is a great time for friends and family to gather, relax and have fun, generally in the sunshine.  You will battle to find a South African that doesn’t enjoy a well braaied piece of meat along with any range of the traditional side orders ranging from mieliepap (say mee-lee-puhp), which is a traditional stiff maize meal porridge to colourful salads.

“Eat more meat. Enjoy each other’s company; amid laughter, peace and harmony, with the aroma of braai in the air. Ahh, nothing could be more comforting. We have 11 official languages but there is only one word for this wonderful institution; it is braai.” – Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

We are very Proud of our heritage here in the FabScraps office. I asked every one to tell me some reasons why:

Wide open spaces
Gorgeous warm weather
Breath taking natural landscapes
Friendly people and the togetherness that comes with it
The Big 5, and the Little 5 (and all other wild life inbetween)
We are a very crafty nation, so many cultures are built on hand made artifacts
Our strong sporting traditions
Our quirky sense of humour
Our diversity (we have 11 official languages!!!)
Our rich ancestry  and history

I had to stop everyone there!

We’d like to wish everyone a Fabulously Happy Heritage Day, whatever your heritage is!

A Confession

I have been working at FabScraps for almost a month now and I realized that I am yet to introduce myself to you!!

My name is Michelle and I manage all of our social media here, what more could a girl ask for than a job where she gets to play on the internet all day (LOL, I wish that was all my job entailed!).

I suppose that, along with introducing myself, I should make a little confession to all you FabScrappers. Here it goes……

I have never scrapped a page in my life! I don’t think have a single creative bone in my body!!

I am, however, able to recognize and appreciate a thing of a beauty, and beauty I have seen! I am constantly amazed by the creativity I see from all of you (I’m sure that the other ladies in the office are getting tired of me saying this EVERY SINGLE TIME I see a new FabScraps layout!) I am slowly beginning to develop my own taste in scrapbooking.

The time has come, I feel to start finding out more about the techniques behind your beautiful craft. So I have committed myself to a journey of learning. I’m going to find a couple of classes and get help from the widest wealth of knowledge that I can think of, you, FabScrappers.

Of course, I fully intend to share my process of learning with all of you, what’s better than sharing with your friends?

What do you think, FabScrappers? Where should I start?

With love from FabScraps!

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

In Loving Memory

October is International Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Here at FabScraps, we lost one of our own to complications due to this devastating illness in 2009. Before she passed away, Claire designed the Breast Cancer Kit.

The kit is the perfect celebration of the strength of a woman during a devastating time. Give it as a gift or, if you have Breast Cancer yourself, use it to document your journey.

In her memory, FabScraps donates 10% of the profits from sales of the kits to a Breast Cancer cause of Claire's choice.

For more information on Breast Cancer, visit http://www.cansa.org.za/breast-cancer/

The Breast Cancer Kit is available on FabScraps Direct.

Summer is Coming!

Here in South Africa, we are slowly starting to thaw out after a chilly winter, the FabScraps girls are very warily starting to pack their lap blankets back into the bottom drawer of their desks and we are on the hunt for our air con remote. (I don't mean to make those of you that are pulling out your winter woolies jealous, lol).

Spring seems to have brought with it boundless creativity, Bee and Tish are designing, designing, designing! We are releasing the most gorgeous Spring inspired collection, Enchanted Gardens, keep your eyes open FabScrappers!!!

Take a look at what our Fabulicious design member, Shona Keehn, has designed this stunning Summer layout:

Take a look at more Summer inspiration. If you're going into Summer, you can preplan your photos (don't we all). If you're trying to plan indoor activities for Winter, why not create some beautiful layouts with your Summer pics?

FABulous Travels

FabScraps has been on the go!

click here to check out some more of our photos

B came through the door this morning EXHAUSTED!! She arrived back from Oz yesterday after 28 hours of flights!

Normally we're showered with presents and little surprises, this time we were all sorely disappointed! Much to her frustration, B didn't get a single free minute for shopping. Despite the exhaustion, she has been nothing but her bubbly self, stories have been her only gift to us!!

B loves, loves, loves Australia! She has raved about how friendly everyone is, nonstop. The level of talent at the Paperific Expo was exceptional and she met some FABulous people.

I think that she's talked herself dry of stories now, there's no noise coming from her office. (Come to think of it, she may be taking a nap!)

I'm off to make her coffee.

Happy Scrapping!!
